The amount of CBD/THC vape-related lung illnesses is steadily increasing due to counterfeit products with unregulated synthetic chemicals. Counterfeit manufacturers buy empty cartridges with known branding and fill them with unknown filler substances known as "cutters" to make profits, causing side effects in consumers. Currently, the only way to make sure a vape cartridge is safe is to send them to mass testing facilities- sometimes even legal states have pop-up stores that do not sell legalized products. One possible solution to this problem space entails creating an app database of vapes where consumers could scan a barcode / QR code on cartridges to confirm the legitimacy of the product and find the exact ingredient lists. Another solution our group is working towards consists of a personal and attachable vape "filter" to only allow THC/CBD particles through, without letting any cutters and/or other dangerous chemicals through to the consumers lungs. Lastly, we are also considering a vape test kit where a consumer would potentially test a small amount of the inner contents of the cartridge. Contact Healthy High at ssaravanan9@gatech.edu.
