HAIs cost hospitals an average of $28.4 billion in lost revenue per year. One of the causes of HAIs in hospitals is the use of outdated medical supplies by frontline hospital employees. This is the result of a high-stress environment that does not allow for quickly checking the dates. As a result, 24% of hospital workers have used expired products at some point, and 18% of patients have incurred some form of harm as a result. We are proposing color changing hospital supply labels that will increase the visibility of expiration dates. Through our experiment, we have detected a 30% decrease in the time it takes to sort expiration dates when our color changing labels are used.
