In developing countries, wood, coal, crop waste, and dung are commonly used household fuels. Burning of these materials releases harmful fine particulate matter which often causes long term respiratory and circulatory disease. Due to lacking awareness, cultural cooking styles, and lower economic well-being, many families-- with emphasis on women and children-- are unable to address the long-term effects of the air pollution associated with solid fuel cook stoves. Existing alternatives include improving fuels, stoves, or ventilation but recurring cost, cultural misalignment, and invasive installation are respective issues with each direction. With a specific focus on cost efficacy and integrability, our group hopes to combine novel stove designs and cheap building material to produce an affordable and adaptable product.
